Dreamweaver 8 - Template Help Needed

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding creating and using templates in Dreamweaver 8.0.2. I have built a current website and several pages (roughly 28), all of which are adding up very quickly. I want to be able to edit my entire site from a single template I (retroactively) created, but am having trouble with this. For example, when I add product pages, each page has a list of links to the left of all the product pages on the site. I want to be able to do the link-adding on one page (the template)and have it take effect on all existing pages in the site.

I created a template *after* creating these 28 pages. However, I can and know how to apply the template to the pages, but each time I update the template it doesn't update the pages. Grr! For some reason I must be missing a step because it errors when I save the updated template and the log tells me "0" pages were updated. Any help with this will save me a ton of time and I will be eternally thankful

Re: Dreamweaver 8 - Template Help Needed

Could you not manually add/remove the coding regarding the template and the 28 pages?

May not have to be through Dreamweaver 8 but could be a text program such as Notepad.

Re: Dreamweaver 8 - Template Help Needed

I'm afraid I don't know enough about templates to understand what would make it update the pages I want it to update. I just want the template page to do it's job and I am looking for help on this. I don't mind tweaking code a bit, but I don't want to have to tweak all 28+ pages...that's not the point of having a template.

The "editable template section" I update should update the entire site in that section. When resaving the template, it prompts me to do so, yet it fails each time. That is my problem and my question is what might I be doing wrong that it fails to update the pages I've applied the template to in my site?

You could use PHP, but you would have to edit every page you have now.

Re: Dreamweaver 8 - Template Help Needed

I figured it out...finally.

Instead of choosing "Editable Region" I needed to make the region with the product page links (the section I wanted to automatically update site-wide) a "Repeating Region". This doesn't necessarily make sense at first, because I can click a button and make duplicates of the region on the pages, but it does work to update the new links on each page that is a child of the template.

Thank you all for your interest and help.
