u can use phpbb and mysql... for forums thats what i would use its free besides the mysql part

or attempt to build your own, it may not be as good. But you can say "I made this"

One site I host, www.killerdismount.net, has a phpBB forum based on mySQL databases. It was 100% free.

Yeah.. I'd try phpbb ....you can play with it, break it and build on it just like the rest. Take a look at the demos.

Remember your going to need a server running php.

Among free and open source software, phpBB tops my list. Fairly good product, huge MOD database, and pretty good support.

If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : create forum

Yeah, phpBB3 is pretty impressive for a free forum. Nearly comparable with vB (it still isn't yet, though lol). Bad thing is, it's not terribly difficult to hack if you don't keep up on security patches (even then, you're probably more vulnerable than a vB forum). Great for a free forum...by far.
