ASP Session timeout

I was under the impression that a session timeout time was reset each time you accessed a page on the site. So, if the default were 20 minuites and I clicked on a page after 10 minuites had elapsed in the session, it would be reset to 20.

Apparently, this is not the case. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, could I put some code like session.timeout = "20" on each page to manually reset the timeout time?

Have you researched any ways to end the session instead of setting it?

Yes, I know I can use session.abandon() when the user logs out. I want the session timeout to be reset everytime a user access a page during their current session.
