Alright, let's break it apart.

HTML Code:
 if (document.images) {
image0 = new Image;
image1 = new Image;
image2 = new Image;
image0.src = 'graphics\/pic1a.gif';
image1.src = 'graphics\/pic2a.gif';
image2.src = 'graphics\/pic3a.gif';
That code defines all of your image variables and basically creates the basis of the script.

HTML Code:
} else {
image0 = '';
image1 = '';
image2 = '';
document.rollimg = '';
}
I believe in JavaScript, every if statement requires a corresponding else statement. This code doesn't mean anything, it was made so that the if statement would work.

Did I clear things up for you?
