css backgrounding

im trying to make the giant blue spot on the left side into a checkerd navagation bar but only part of the image will load into the background could some one check my coding to see what i did wrong, im pretty new with css so dont pick apart to much of my coding just need to get this image as a background so my link bar will show up thanks

the space between the quote mark and the word background.....that could have done something but im trying to get rid of the blue space you see there in the thing and ignore the crappy links till i change them....ummm i got rid of the code and just put it up in the css part so i dont need the style tag...works a little better if u see but still no go i got that damn blue spot where is it coming from...!!!!ahhhhh im going crazy

alright well im done for tonight i guess....i still dont have a clue what it could be this will be interesting to see what the problem was....back up in 7 hrs to play with this again peace and thanks DJ let me know if u get it before i do....
