converting dvd files
Me and my brother years back made some vhs home movies using the stop-motion animation feature on our family's camcorder. Recently i bought a dvd recorder with built-in vcr to burn some of these movies to dvd to give as presents. However, before i do, i would like to be able to edit them a little bit, and maybe even add some special effects to them (i.e. removing strings, adding gunshots, flashes, etc.) that we couldn't do at that time. I attempted to load the files from disk to the computer and then into a movie editor (Magix movie editor) and this is where i have encountered a problem. It doesn't want to recognize the (.vob) extension and even when i have changed it to something it would recognize (i.e. .avi, or .mpg) it still will not load them. I have even tried to using a demo version of a few file converters that leave their logo in the middle of the file, and although they are successful in converting them, the program still will not recognize it as a compatible file, neither will the demo version of Adobe After Effects as well. Can anyone help me to convert these files to something either one of these programs will use if anyone has had any experiences similar to mine?
Thanks, Jared |

WinDV (free, no spyware) lets you capture directly from the camcorder into AVI format. Cuts out the VOB conversion process, so it should be quicker for you.
