Can pdf files on a hard drive link to WWW
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen:
I was wondering if anyone here knows if Adobe Acrobat 7 can create links to urls on the WWW if the pdf in question resides on someone's hard drive? I'm lost trying to make an ebook link to sites on the net. Thanks, Brian. |

If the computer in question is also the host it can be done. If the host is remote then the files must be uploaded to the host and linked with the host as the target source.

Re: Can pdf files on a hard drive link to WWW
Hello Brian, a warm welcome to TSF
![]() I have created links in PDF files that have been sent to users too. Once the pdf file is on their hard drive, the links are active as long as their computer is online.

Re: Can pdf files on a hard drive link to WWW
I create the master document in Word and then convert to PDF via the Acrobat feature that is added to Word when Acrobat is installed.
Make sure that you are prefixing the web address that you want to link to with the obligatory http:// I have added a couple of attachments as a demo. The .doc is the source document and the .pdf is the generated document from the source. It contains a hot link to the BBC's website. To test that the link works on someone else's machine, open the .pdf & save it to your hard drive. Then close the pdf reader & your browser. When everything is closed down, use windows explorer to find where you saved the pdf-test.pdf and double click it. That will then open your default pdf reader (presumably Acrobat 7) Hover the mouse over the BBC link to see that it changes to a hand... Click the link to ensure that your browser opens and goes to the BBC page... I hope that helps...
