[SOLVED] What codec for this avi?

Hello,

I recently got a new video camera. It was all good until i tried to play a video i recorded which was in avi format. I thought that would be good because i can usually play avi's. However when i try to play it it says acquiring codec then after about 5 seconds it says codec acquired. However, it only plays the sound, not the video. I have tried downloaded divx codec and xvid all of which don't support this certain format.

Is there a way i can find what codec i need to play it with? Or will i have to convert it to another format?

Thanks.

Re: What codec for this avi?

download and install GSpot from my link in signature then open the file in GSpot and it will give you the information about which codecs are needed for both audio and video. Any problems with reading the GSpot information and you can post a screenshot here and we will help you.

Re: What codec for this avi?

try this one or if you don't already have a codec pack try K-Lite Codec pack from link in my signature. K-Lite also comes with good player - Media Player Classic which will play most files. Another good player that comes bundled with its own codecs is VLC available here
