Printing problems with colors

I posted this in the Mac section. It was suggested that I post it here.

My G5 Imac power supply went out in the middle of a photo job. I picked up a used Intel Imac for a decent price. My projects are kept on an external Firewire drive so I got going again right away. The problem I having is the color mismatch. It's like there's an extra layer of cyan transparancy overlaying the photo. I've downloaded the color profile from the paper manufacturer but the results are still way off. The blues are overbearing and the skin tones are ashen. I've played with all the settings I can think of but that only makes minor changes.

I reprinted a photo that I had done a couple of months ago with the same printer (Canon 4300). It's dull and the blues are overbearing. That tells me that it's not a my monitor colors.

Unless my printer failed at exactly the same time as my Mac power supply it has to be an issue with the software.

Any ideas?

Re: Printing problems with colors

I'm still fighting this...

I installed Lightroom 2.0. I printed the same photos out of that and they look great. Just exactly like what I was getting before changing computers. Unless I'm missing something... Photoshop CS3 is the culprit.

Any ideas?

Re: Printing problems with colors

have you checked your colour management settings in Photoshop since using new comp? Edit> Colour settings in CS2, probably same in CS3 (have CS3 at work CS2 here).
Make sure you have colour management settings for your monitor, Photoshop and printer on same profiles.

Re: Printing problems with colors

I think this is a good guide on the topic:
http://www.normankoren.com/printer_calibration.html
Follow the digitaldog link to get some calibration sample pics.
For more on the topic (and more pics) type color calibration on google. Or test patterns
Here's a huge one for fun: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2125220...56020/sizes/o/

It'd be cool if all printers came with a test pic (jpeg, tiff, whatever) and a calibration chart (a printed chart with what the colors should come out like); idem with monitors.

P.S: Be sure you're using paper recommended for the printer. Something seemingly as trivial as brand of paper can make a difference!

Re: Printing problems with colors

Hi,
Probably there is a problem profile of your printer.

In PS you can change it in Print setup page.

Try also change your printer profile from Standard Color to Expert color (which should be able to edit)

Can you write what a printer you have?
