Click to DVD - No Audio

I have successfully used Click to DVD in the past to import from analog media. Today I am importing video fine but have no audio. Any suggestions on what and where to check? I have tried with both composite and SVideo cables. The masters do have audio but are in 8mm format, which we no longer use. I am using an 8mm VHS to import into the computer.

Re: Click to DVD - No Audio

Open one of the files in GSpot (freeware video file analyser - link in my signature area) and see if the audio is there - it may be coming in but you don't have the correct codec to play it.
If unsure of how to interpret result screen post a screenshot of the GSpot window with the file open in it here.

Re: Click to DVD - No Audio

Dear Zuluclayman,

Could you tell me how to create a screenshot of the GSpot window with the comments about the audio codecs?

Thanks!

Re: Click to DVD - No Audio

unfortunately can't tell much from that screenshot - you needed to maximise the G-Spot window so that the results box at the bottom showed all results.
What it does show is that the audio is there but for some reason is not able to be rendered - it says you do have the correct codecs installed.
Are you wanting to edit these files, just burn them to DVD or just play them on your computer as is?
If you want to just play them on your computer try downloading either Media Player Classic or VLC player and see if the audio plays OK.
post your maximised screenshot when you can

Re: Click to DVD - No Audio

In gspot, try the MS A/V instead. On each of the files listed in the rendering, click to see details. You can also click the -> arrows.

MPC and VLC are good ideas. MPC because it's standalone and VLC because it has its codecs independent of Windows. Don't be afraid of installing VLC. It's very clean and when uninstalled doesn't leave any residues or junk.

This is in case everything plays fine, but you're not hearing anything (perhaps the audio stream is there but it's blank - you didn't record anything). I have no experience with click to dvd. Are you able to play, stream, or preview the 8mm tape on your PC? If so, are you able to hear audio from it? Then when you set it to capture, what did you pick as your audio source (some programs will allow you the choice of recording audio from your speakers, from audio in, or from the microphone). I also notice you mention you used s-video, then switched to composite for video. Do you have a cable for audio? The most simple setup I can think of would be stereo RCA (red and white) to TRS (jack for most headphones) into your line in (blue) or microphone (red) jack. Re: Click to DVD - No Audio

Well, believe it or not, I thought I'd give it one more shot today and finally got it to read in with video. I have no clue why it wouldn't before, as I am using the exact same equipment, etc. I did have to pull one of the audio connectors out and am running it just with the feed from the red cable. With both audio cables plugged in, I was getting lots of feedback and even no audio in spots, but it is working just fine with the yellow (video) and only the red audio.

Thanks so much for your responses. I really appreciate the fact that y'all have been so helpful.
