Nero 9 Burned DVDs not playable in some DVD players

I am working with a trial version of Nero 9, more specifically Nero Vision, which is software that allows a user to create custom DVDs with Menus and chapters. Audio and Video can be imported from a number of sources, and the results output to either an image file, a saved project file or to a DVD.

I've created several DVDs, using a dual deck Samsung DVD-VHS recorder, then importing the VOB, BUP and IFO files into Nero 9 and editing them- but am running into the following problem:

When creating DVDs on my laptop at home, running Windows Vista..the DVDs are usually playable with no problem, as well as on the stand alone Samsung dual deck VHS-DVD recorder. However on another DVD standalone player, a relatively new Phillips model, the DVD plays but during playback the player freezes up..the DVD plays but no longer responds to the remote unless the DVD is ejected by pressing a button on the player itself, and then replayed. Of course it then freezes again.

When trying these DVDs on a Windows XP Desktop system with a Lite-on DVD rewritable (firmware just updated but it didn't help) the DVDs are not playable at all..I get an error message saying just that. I even tried burning a DVD using this desktop system and Nero tells me the burn was successful but then the disk isn't playable in the recorder that just burned it!

I can still import the files from the DVD and create a new project file which plays perfectly through Nero (from the temporary files it creates on the hard drive from the DVD).

Thinking it's media related, I have tried DVD+rw (Memorex) and now HP DVD-R (one time use), which did not make any difference. I tried using a slower recording speed (half of the rated disc speed) as well as trying "book DVD-Rom" recording settings, and that didn't help either.

I intend to try other DVD-R and DVD+R media because I have read that the brand of DVD media may be the problem but buying packages of these disks isn't cheap and it's just a shot in the dark so to speak.

I've had that issue before. 99% of the time it was the DVD player not being able to read the disc due to the actual material of the disc itself.

If you use a Lite-On burner like I do then I strongly recommend Verbatim blanks for compatibility.

Re: Nero 9 Burned DVDs not playable in some DVD players

I haven't had much luck with Lite-On drives either. My best (most compatible) burns have been on LG drives (the laser probably calibrates better). Be sure to read the manual: there should be a section that recommends specific brands of media. This guide may also help: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
Ideally you'd swap a few disks of one brand you have with someone's few disks of another brand, and you both learn something from that experience, but it really depends on how networked you are, and how computer savyy/generous the others are.

Re: Nero 9 Burned DVDs not playable in some DVD players

I just downloaded the trail version of Nero 9 and IO am hopinbg that the DVD I burned does work as the software said that DVDs burned with Nero does play on a home DVD player I have a newer Acer Aspire 5570z Laptop DVD RW Cd writter so I am hoping that this works. I did find a program that does work but leaves a watermark on the trail ver of the software the program is IMTOO DVD create it does work and has a lot better resolution than Movie DVD Maker which does work but some of the movies are bad quality images on the movies So I would go with IMTOO DVD creater so far unless Nero works if it don't I just wasted a DVD RW and I have thrown out 8 so far with crummy software off the Internet that was supposed top work I dont like thowing money away I am a disabled Vet so I dont have a lot of money anyway. I had my own computer business for over 9 years in St Petersburg,Fl and there was better sdhareware programs on line before everyone started writing them that did not know what they were doing LOL Just like all the computer techs I am A+ certified and I trained a lot of people I have seen guys who said they were Techs but they could not even change a card in a system. So there ya go the quality went down as the years went by..... So is Nero playable in my Pioneer BD 51FD Blu ray Player?

Re: Nero 9 Burned DVDs not playable in some DVD players

I just removed Nero from my Vista laptop The Trail version is a piece of junk the Movie I burned I could not hear the canverstatios on the movie due to a dumb background music that was added I guess so that when you burn a Movie DVD youb can not haer what is being said. They should let people know thay can not watch DVD movies. I went back to ImTOO DVD creator which I am going to purchase because it works and even though the trail version leaves a watermark the program works and you are able to watch the move to get a idea of what a movoe burned with the software would do. I would noit recommend Nero At all and I am a experienced PC user I had my own business for over 9 years. Runningba PC repair and networking business and repairs.
