Quicktime Pro Won't Do Slideshow

When I click to 'open image sequence' to create a slideshow from a set of timelapse pics QT imports only the first image and does not build the shoe as it is supposed to. I have triple checked the instructions and am following them correctly - image files are named in sequence. Also maybe relevant is that in the import dialogue box it offers only one option for the frame rate (29.97).

Does anyone have any experience of this, or ideas?

Can you click the drop-down arrow next to where it says 29.97fps? Can you pick 1 fps there?
