Converting a Word doc into PDF
I need to convert a document from Word into PDF. The only problem is that the finished document needs to have the following dimensions: 5.25" wide X 1.795" high. I have no clue how to get these final dimensions for the PDF file. I do not have PDF software. Is there a way to achieve this? I believe I have uploaded the file (but don't know if i was successful). Thanks.

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
It is meant for a newspaper ad, and PDF is the format they are requesting the ad to be. I created the document using MS Word (2003), then saving it into RichTextFormat, then converting the doc into PDF using PDF995, which is similar to PrimoPDF. I might have also used PrimoPDF. The only problem with these programmes is that I cannot control the dimensions of the document. And it appears that the newspaper staff cannot change the dimensions witht the document I presented them. I don't understand why they can't simply adjust the dimensions with their PDF programme. That said, I know just about nothing about PDF, so I don't know what that software can and cannot do. I hope this answers your question. Thanks. luc

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
could you not create a custom document in word to match the size you are looking for. i stay away from word as much as possible, but i created a custom page to the sizes above and then added what word wanted for margins. (document size was 18.3cm x 10.8cm)
this might look a bit funny in a pdf viewer, but when you import it to photoshop it comes in at 5.68" x 1.805". i only did a quick conversion from imperial to metric, but if i tricked around i'm sure it would have been closer to the sizes you wanted.

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
thanks to your advice
, I managed to create (actually modify) my document using converted metric dimensions to match the needed imperial dimensions! I think I might have done it. The only problem now, is that I am unsure as to the exact dimensions that I ended up creating. I have attached a new (and hopefully final ) PDF document to this message, and was wondering if you or someone else with PFD creator or any other program that gives the actual dimensions of my document, could tell me what the actual dimensions of my document are. That would be great! In any case, thank you!

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
the pdf you attached in the previous post i measure at
5.495" x 1.86" but when i crop it to the black border i get 5.27" x 1.79" possibly still a smidgen wide.

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
Thanks. I have modified the document once again, using a thinner border, and have attached it to this post. Would you be so kind as to tell me what dimensions come up for it? If you can be my «eyes», I will try to reduce the document at my end according to the dimensions you provide me. I should get it right eventually. That would be great!

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
do you remember what were the dimensions of the document i attached, including with the black border? (I will need to reduce the document at my end, according to the dimensions you give me). Again, thanks for your efforts.

Re: Converting a Word doc into PDF
this is the size i get the pdf when first opened
5.487" x 1.833" however when i open the PDF in photoshop i import it at 300dpi and that's it. the image cannot be scaled again, so it would be better for the printers to get the PDF that can be scaled and not one that i'd save. the printers can crop the image at their end anyway. in fact they won't even do that, because the image is transparent beyond the black border, so i'd send them on that pdf you've created.
