Is there anyone using XP or VISTA 64 for video production?

Hi all,

I'm currently using XP Pro 32bit but I'm looking to move my video production CS3 suite to XP or VISTA 64.

Is there anyone using XP or VISTA 64 to run adobe CS3 Master Collection, more specifically premiere pro, photoshop, after affects, dreamweaver and indesign?

I'd like to know which 64 OS is more stable at the moment with CS3. I know that most likely, VISTA 64 is the one to go with since XP will be discontinued in a few years and I don't think that XP 64 is being supported anymore.

Neither uses 64-bit code so the ONLY difference would be the ability to use more than 4GB of RAM. I have a friend who does pro-level video working with a Windows XP pro system and it performs perfectly.

Re: Is there anyone using XP or VISTA 64 for video production?

thanks for the feedback!

I have gone ahead and installed CS3 on my Vista x64, with 3gb's of ram its much faster and responsive than it was on XP 32bit.

If its that fast and responsive with 3gb's of ram, I can't wait to see how it is with 8gb's of ram. I have ordered 4 2gb sticks ram for a total of 8gb.

I use an x64 at work because my workstation often doubles as a test server for the entire section. Since all I use is Notepad and Opera, I don't have to worry about software incompatabilities :).

Kind of like using a Mack Truck to drive to the corner store!

Re: Is there anyone using XP or VISTA 64 for video production?

Sure feels that way sometimes. On the plus side, the monitoring programs my company uses don't work on x64 systems (yet).

Since I'm the only one in my section who understands SQL, I use the big rig. If I'm feeling nice and don't really have anything I have (or want) to do, I'll let someone else with a very large processor load have a go. I just have to stand over their shoulder to make sure they don't play with the server settings and things (toopid manager won't let me password them or make backups). Most of them don't like that, but they have to put up with me if they want to use my machine.
