Re: about Vray in 3dmax
vray is a render engine that a lot of dcc applications now use. it costs a bit ($1000 approx). mental ray comes with 3dmax and is quite capable, but vray seems to be the de facto render engine these days. vray is my third render engine to use and so far i find it very good and easy enough to use, although that could be because i have worked with 2 before.

Re: about Vray in 3dmax
you can download a demo of vray here. i haven't tried it since i have a rull version. vray materials are different to the max standard ones. you will definitely need documentation on how to use them.
but get to know the 3ds max interface first. you can do nothing if you cannot find or understand what a tutorial is referring to. then get into modelling. there are different ways to build models and building them is the only way to master it.
