converting dvd for editing

Hi everyone, this is my first post in this section (mainly post in xp forum)

My specs acer laptop 1.8 gig 80gb 512 ram winXp sp2

Here is my question: Is it possible to copy my homemade dvd movies to my hard disk so that i could edit the footage. Is there a program, preferably freeware that could do this or do i need to buy some sort of hardware

Many thanks

Re: converting dvd for editing

for video editing you can try virtualdub. i've only used it twice, but it did what i needed. as for copying the .vob files to the HD, you should be able to drag and drop them. only © material is not drag and dropable to the HD.

Re: converting dvd for editing

If you find you don't like Virtual Dub, are going to do a bit of editing in the future and don't mind spending a little bit of money try Adobe Premiere Elements - lots of editing power for not a great deal of money.
