Re: looking for something

install k-lite [full pack]. this will give you a lot more codecs to choose from. the likes of DivX is quite good at compression.

Re: looking for something

AutoGordianKnot (AGK) is a good freeware compression tool - it gives you the choice of compressing to standard sizes, by percentage quality or custom size in MB, allows you to use DivX or Xvid compression and allows you to set audio compression rates as well - all for free! Make sure you download and install the plugins with it.
I use Adobe Premiere Elements to edit video then export at a fairly high quality setting and then for use on the net I compress with AGK - can bring file sizes down dramatically and still keep good quality. I often use the percentage method and find 60% to be good for keeping quality and achieving much lower file sizes.

Re: looking for something

DivX or Xvid will give you good compression rates and reasonable quality video
If you really want better quality at lower file size - export your video from Camtasia at "Full frames (uncompressed)" which will give you a largish file size video with good quality, then use Auto Gordian Knot to compress it. The reason this is better than using the Xvid or DivX compression within Camtasia is that Camtasia is not a compression program and won't necessarily give you the best results. Auto Gordian Knot is a specialist compression program.

Re: looking for something

Yep all you need to do is open auto gordian knot, select your video file you want to compress, where you want it saved to, select the way you want to compress it (by percentage, to fit CD, or MB size), press add job, start and away it goes. It should only take a few minutes to do its work - you will see a progress report in the left hand side window and a progress percentage in the task bar. If you're not happy with the result - do it again with different settings until you are happy with it.
