Flash CS3 Help

Hi all.

I am a fairly amateur flash developer and have been using flash 8 and mx up until now.

I have recently started using flash cs3 and it is driving me up the wall.

basiclly i am just trying to configure my buttons to jump to other frames but keep getting the error

"Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."

In the past i just used "on release" etc and it took me ages to figure out the new way of doing it. This is what ive got, if anyone can see what im doing wrong i would very much appreciate it.

Code:
stop();
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
aboutbtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotostopabout);
function gotostopabout(event:MouseEvent):void {
	gotoAndStop("About")
	}

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
releasebtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotostoprelease);
function gotostoprelease(event:MouseEvent):void {
	gotoAndStop("Releases")
	}

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
homebtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotostophome);
function gotostophome(event:MouseEvent):void {
	gotoAndStop("Home")
	}

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
contactbtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotostopcontact);
function gotostopcontact(event:MouseEvent):void {
	gotoAndStop("Contact")
	}
