Reduce the bit depth of an image from 32 to 8 and retain all the other image properties.
Also, be able to convert an RGB image to CMYK. Anything out there that can do this for free?

Krita is great, but it works only on Linux. I have searched and searched for this and it doesn't exist. Pixel is another good program, but it's not free.
Photoshop is the way to go, sorry. The GIMP owns, but it can't do CMYK. It does have a separate plugin (called separate) that works, but not very well.
