Enhance a photo?

I am taking pictures of cricket from my TV. So while watching I zip out my camera and take a snap. However with, as many TVs do, I get these wierd streaks and stuff on my pictures. Is there anyway to clear the pictures, any software? I can only get some out at the moment

Re: Enhance a photo?

I speak here as a former professional photographer.

Taking photos of TV screens has always been technically difficult. Its down to the flicker rate of the TV. TV's do things a lot slower that cameras.

Unfortunately you have not said which country you are in. TV picture quality is not the same the world over. Nor have you said which camera you have in terms of technical ability.

You need to turn the camera shutter speed down as far as you can, If you can. 30th of a second or more should do it.

Focus and depth of field are not an issue as the TV screen is flat so camera aperture can afford to be wide open.

OR......

You could get a TV card in your PC and use the frame capture feature.

Also, LCDs are not susceptible to this phenomenon, so if you know somebody who has one, you can take pictures of theirs without worrying about this.

Re: Enhance a photo?

That's an effect called moiré, where the vertical and horizontal lines of your TV don't line up properly with the rows and columns of pixels in your digital camera.

Re: Enhance a photo?

There's really very little that can be done to avoid this. If the camera is perfectly level with a screen with completely straight rows and columns, then you could theoretically get a picture without this effect.

If this is very important to you, then you'd be better off running the cable into your computer through a capture card and taking screen shots.

Re: Enhance a photo?

You need a TV capture card and a cable to link your TV or video to the card. This allows you to capture full-motion video or single frames digitally without the moiré interference.

Re: Enhance a photo?

Hmm guess I will have to align myself properly. I can capture a TV screen as I have the Picture button on my remote where it stops the TV picture..
