Good Free Photo Editing Programs?

I have a fairly stripped down XP..No Picture it like on Win 98 SE..any ideas of how I can find comparable free software or better? Is there something on here already I'm just not aware of? Thanx guys!

What exactly is it for your after?

I use Babya Photo Workshop Professional 12.0 for most editing, MS Photo Editor (free if you have Office XP), GIMP 2, Canadownload Photo Editor, ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4, Serif DrawPlus 4.0, Photo Plus 6.0, 3DPlus 2.0, IrfanView 3.98, ArtStudio 2005, Visage Software- Image Editor (like MS Photo Editor), Paint.NET etc for all the basics.
Obviously professionally or more rigorous editing is carried out by other apps, most of them are costly and over 1GB in size.

(Only mentioning some free ones)

Really nothing fancy..just want to recolor if possible and crop existing photos. Like I said..I have stripped down XP..no Office..just Open Office..which is great..but free. Yup..we need some free stuff this year.

The ones I've mentioned apart from MS Photo Editor, are all free and perfectly suitable then.

them names and you'll be able to get a download link for them easily. Windows does have "Paint" BTW, under "Accessories" if you want to copy/paste images and edit them.

Try Googles free photo software "picasa 2" its the best free photo editing and cataloging software available.

Yes, it loads up inside 3 seconds too, for me. The latest I have is version 2.6.0 which is named Picasa2. Funnily, after my reinstall of XP on this HDD, I've total forgotten about it till now when reminded by kodi.

Yea..Picasa2 was a snap to download..THANX!! Is there also a way to tweak the color on a flatscreen..or are they by nature kinda light. Seems like my photos don't come out as rich as I expected. This monitor is a 21 inch KDS.

There should be some buttons on the front or side of your monitor for color, contrast and brightness. Or see if your display control panel has any options for making adjustments.

Have you installed the monitor drivers?

The picasa program seems to improve the image considerably. Do you know if there is a feature in picasa2 that will enlarge or bring forward the image?

LCDs just aren't the choice for serious photo work. I sometimes use the LCD on my laptop simply because of that. I can move the panel around to adjust the contrast and quickly see what fixes I need to make. For serious editing I strongly recommend a good 19" CRT with a flat tube. I personally have a 19" NEC DiamondTron 930sb monitor. It's big and heavy, but super sharp and precise with color.

How big and how heavy..in other words...the old space hawgs of yesteryear? How much can one be had for..really miss rich colors.

This is what I have for one of my Photo Editing suites: Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u 22" Monitor

It excellent!

there are much better i.e. work has given me an Apple WQXGA but thats on a professional level.
