Christian Charity Needing Help..

I am part of a team of guys who just helped set up a Christian ministry similar to Tough Talk. We understand from the outset that we still need to get our logo and branding correct in order to send the right message out to the people we would hope to evangelise through testimony to.

My post is very simple and somewhat bold:
I basically write to ask if any budding graphic designers and possibly, but not necessarily Christian brothers and sisters would like to help us with a logo and some ideas for branding. As this is a charity we cannot afford to pay an agency or comp to do this and we are relying on donations and our own faith!

We would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping as we have a few ideas and basic logos to help the person/s contributing to this part.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Semiotics is something that always requires careful consideration. A good place to start is do some brainstorming on what characteristics of the ministry you want to signify. A good finish is something clean, universally understandable, and easily implimented in print and on the web.

If it helps give you any direction, here's a quick blurb from our semiotics thread in the design school
Simply put, semiotics is the study/theory of any visible mark. (I could have said study/theory of symbols, but as you'll see, that's alittle too specific.) One of the key concepts to be aware of is the signifier/signified relationship. A signifier is what is visually present, the signified is a person's interpretation of the image. Example, a cute little penguin is a signifier. Most of you don't think cute little penguin when you see it though, you think Linux. Or maybe you have a pet penguin that comes to mind. Perhaps your nickname in college was penguin. Maybe you like Batman? The signified could be any of these. Be wary of this in your design. The name Hooters works great for the bar/restaurant whose slogan is Delightfully tacky yet unrefined, but it may give the wrong message elsewhere.
1: Icons – An icon is a sign that actually resembles the object that it represents. A smiley face is an obvious icon for a face.
2: Symbols – More abstract than an icon, a symbol is an image where meaning is learned, and a part of any given micro/macro environment. The symbol for a small company may mean alot to it's employees and customers, but means nothing outside of that. A country's flag has bundles of imbued meaning, but means nothing to someone who knows little/nothing about the country.
3: Indexical signs: these are the least well-known of the three. An indexical sign does not resemble its signified meaning. Instead, it gives cues to the existence of the signified. Smoke is indexical to fire, foot prints are indexical to a person, white crud on your car to birds, etc etc.
Please stop back with any questions you have.

Thank you for your help.
As we are not from an IT/Graphic design background all of you post seems informative but we would struggle to put in into practice hence looking for someone to actually design donate a design set based on our ideas.

I appreciate this is a bold request but the ministry will be greatly used similar to Tough Talk UK

My System

I see on the Tough Talk site they've used an army-style stencil font for their logo, which is suitable for their audience. Would you be wanting something softer, more religious?

Can you give us some more information about the target audience and what the ministry will be doing to help people. eg, will it be a place for people to meet and talk or a website forum?

Would you rather have just an image or incorporate the company name into it?

Will the logo/branding be for print or web? For print it might be cheaper to use just one colour, and for web you can be more adventurous.

Post back with any sketches or ideas you've come up with already. Or if you prefer, send them via private message.

Thumbs Up

Hay every one just noted an Em someone sent me in regard to this post> can u all give me an up date on this. Whats the group want to target in there evangelistic work. I am an evanelist myself, I am also working on creating my own website but my goals are other for the lords work, at the moment. I do a lot of traveling on his work. I do have a list of some sites that have logos, symbls that might interest you. Please let me know where your going with this?

For me when I started, I started looking thru the telephone yellew pages, anyone that had a web address I click on it to see what it looked like. I found myself using a Dove in flight with Gold tip wings. Something simple and world wide know to be pure and clean. If I could figure out how to post it on here I would show you what I ment. I would try to make it simple but tough the heart to see. I had a child in the hospital ask for me once, but the only way she remember who she wanted was she remember that Dove how it look like it was flying to heaven.

Please tell me more about the work you are doing so I can pass it to read, A good place to post is "Studylightforum.com"

God Bless all and I will pray abundantly for your needs and golds. DC

Just an update to this post..
Unfortunately our designer has had some PC trouble and is unable to carry on an finish the design that we had hoped for.
Strong Words have go off to a runnning start and are certainly being blessed with their ministry with overwhelming amount of dates and response.

My initial post still stands.. We still need a quality logo and also website.
As we have came such a long way with one of our deigners we could forward finalised details to anyone who would like to help us.

God bless.
Strong Words Team.

so it is A@B.com
