AVI to VCD for CD-R burning

i want to convert video files to VCD so i can burn them on a CD-R. does anyone know of any free software or any software that will convert from AVI to VCD....tried some of the programs from download.com and they did'nt work...i only want to do this till i have the money to get a dvd burner....can anyone help....

nero will convert them if you have it or you can download trial versions to get by for the moment.

i haven't come across a FREE converter that does a good conversion at the moment...
