Insert snazzy lesson title here

So I'm sitting here contemplating the subject of my first lesson. I could write about the beginnings of visual communication and of the printed word, that would be fairly appropriate. Everyone wants to learn about cave paintings and the Gutenberg Bible, right?
...Right?
After some thought, another question comes to mind. A question that very few people could actually give a solid answer to... I know I can't. Many could hardly do more than scratch at the surface.
What is Graphic Design?
I'll do my best to do more than scratch.
Graphic Design is about visual information, communication, and problem solving. Sometimes. Design can be of conformity, or of dissent. Of love or hate (or both). It can be acutely modern, or painfully Modern.
Visual information? What if there is no information?
Communication? Not all design necessarily communicates anything...
and Problem Solving — sometimes theres no problem to solve, and often no problems are solved. So Graphic Design is all and none of these things? That's not for me to say. So what is Graphic Design?

I'm not telling.
Well, not here atleast. If you really want to know, stick around, and you'll get the idea.

My System

I tend to look at it from a mechanical standpoint - the proper balance of color and form to convey a message and to make sure it sticks.

There has to be some sort of message, intended or not, or you just have a colorless blank - which sends its own message.

I think ....
