Cleveland Makes BIG Impact on Day 1 of Free Agency!

Phil Savage is being very aggressive in free agency this year. Adding Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams to the D-line via trades with the Lions and Packers. That's roughly 700lbs of run stopping, QB sacking beef!

We have no day 1 drafts picks left, but I love the moves Savage has made thus far. He's hoping to add a free agent LB over the weekend as well.

history shows most big impacts usually turns out to be duds.

Re: Cleveland Makes BIG Impact on Day 1 of Free Agency!

Or you get the desired result. As we did last year by adding Eric Stienbach (free agent) and Joe Thomas (1st round draft pick) to O-line. DA was one of the least sacked QBs in league.

Adding run stoppers in the middle that demand a double teams will free up Wimbley to rush the passer more and cause all kinds of havoc for the opposing QB.

Of course there is also the LeCharles Bentley example. The biggest impact free agent on the market when we signed him. Then he blew out his petella on the 1st day of training camp. That was 2 years ago and we still don't know if ever play again.

Regardless of outcome, I love the moves by Savage. He got proven players that can have an immediate impact on the team. Rather than drafting someone with potential that they may never reach. There are plenty of highly touted draft picks that never live up to the hype. Robert Gallery, Courtney Brown, Gerrard Warren, Ryan Leaf, etc.

Re: Cleveland Makes BIG Impact on Day 1 of Free Agency!

The Browns have a bright future. I like what they've been doing the past two off-seasons. I am a 49ers fan, and despite the recent penalty for tampering with Lance Briggs, I think we have a good future ahead as well with the moves that have been made since Nolan took over, but it may be one more losing year before the ship is totally turned around. I hope the ownership is patient with the coaching staff and I hope the coaches give Alex Smith all of 2008 and 2009 to prove himself.
