Why do Republicans hate cheap oil?

Why are they trying to get these people for helping the poor; just because Bush doesn't want to play with him? We're willing to contract our ports to some Arabs for billions, but we should stop some venezuelans from giving our poor a break on a basic necessity like heating?

What is wrong with the Republicans, why do they have such little regard for the nation's poor that they would rather have them freeze than take oil from a leftist.

The president of Venezuela is a thug, that is why. But if it is for cheap oil, then it's OK right? I suppose it would have been ok for states to make deals with Hitler on come real cheap artwork too.

No politician (especially in the third world) is clean, but last a I saw he was building schools for the poor while Saudi Arabia was hanging women for showing their faces. He's no saint but he is the lesser of two evils, that's for sure.

what has he done that countries in the Mid East haven't done worse? He has some socialist ideals (except for the fact that he's a christian) but can someone remind me what specifically makes him worse than any of the other countries we buy oil from?

The human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have documented human rights violations under Chávez. Scores of deaths and hundreds of injuries inflicted during both opposition and pro-Chávez demonstrations have resulted in little investigative action taken on the part of Chávez. These organizations have also made allegations of ill treatment of detainees, torture, and censorship by the police and military. However, there is also much repression of lower class Chávez supporters and even social workers, and the local police act on behalf of the local mayors, many of whom are wealthy anti-Chavistas, rather than the central government. The government is currently attempting to nationalize police to eliminate local corruption. Meanwhile, relatives of victims who were killed in the April 11, 2002 clashes have filed a case against Chávez and others at the International Criminal Court, stating that Chávez is legally complicit in crimes against humanity.

Just because you are a Christian does not instantly make you a saint. Bush bashers try to use his faith against. Chavez is Catholic, Hitler was Catholic too.

Let me list them:

1. he didn't investigate deaths and injuries during demonstrations

2.allegations of ill treatment of detainees, torture, and censorship by the police and military.

And in that last one is says that he's fighting corruption in the police force.

But the problem with that list is that that same organization accuses us of those same things, except instead of deaths at demonstrations it's deaths after the hurricane. Compare that list to what Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have documented on the US: Iraq, Katrina, Guantanamo ect...
And the long list of things they have on Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, UAE, and Kuwait and those problems are minuscule.

And Hitler was not a Catholic, he discouraged religion. I just don't see what makes this guy the new Kim Jon Ill, or Iotolah. His only weapon is oil, so why do republicans piss their pants when he uses that weapon for good?

I think that we need to relieve our dependece on foreign oil, not dig deeper.

I am a believer that supply/demand and market jitters are the largest factors driving oil prices..

Gas prices are at record highs again. Many think oil companies are to blame. In fact, a May 2004 poll showed that 77 percent of Californians believed this to be true. However, this just shows the media have failed to properly inform people about who's causing high gas prices.

One thing is certain: oil companies are not to blame for high gas prices. These companies are responsible for producing the gasoline we need. In California, where gas prices are among the nation's highest, the oil industry has been repeatedly investigated to find evidence of "price manipulation" and none has ever been found.

Although there are other causes of high gas prices, such as high gasoline taxes, the primary cause is environmental regulation. For example, environmental regulation has significantly restricted drilling for oil in Alaska and on the continental shelf. More drilling will increase the gasoline supply (up to 10 percent from greater Alaskan drilling alone) and thus lower prices.
