United Arab Emirates control US ports

The management of major U.S. ports possibly taken over by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned company in the United Arab Emirates. President Bush and the Bush administration defended its approval of the sale.

How do you feel about this?

Did you know that Jack Snow - Sec of Transportation - who was key in the decision making process that approved this - was the CEO of CSX Corp - which used to run some of the ports. But they sold their port business to ---you guessed it --- Dubai World Ports.

Ghee, funny how that works.

And George W. Bush use to run the Texas Rangers too, and then we had those congressional hearings with Rafael Paelmero who used to play for the Rangers.

Nobody cared when the ports were run by the British company, but when they sell to an Arabic country, there is a stink. Makes everyone look a little racist, unless you have the same problem with Nigel as you do with Ahmed.

I however think NO foreign country should control anything here. Does that make me a racist? Maybe, maybe not.....

I don't think racist would be the word. I agree with you 100%. Right now the government hires contractors to service and maintain much of our military defense. Such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon/Hughes, TRW, Northrop-Grumman, etc. I have a friend that is a programmer at Raytheon working at Offutt AFB. What would happen if the Government permitted this to be outsourced overseas.
Or better yet, our air traffic control system.

No, it makes you an American! I see a difference between a British COMPANY and a company owned by the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Notice the difference in emphasis. One is a company the other is a foreign government.

But Rove must be loving all of this. It is a distraction that will ultimately go nowhere. And it's focusing our attention away from much more pressing issues. When was the last time you heard NSA mentioned? Or Libby? Or Abramoff? Or ???

This whole story is a little fishy; it makes me uneasy thinking that we are in essence outsourcing our national security.

But let me throw something up for debate:

Isn't it hypocritical of us to support the uprising of democracy in the Middle East, and then we refuse to do business with them?

I do think its funny watching the TV and seeing all of them Dems using any news story and relating it back to how corrupt and incompetent the WH is. They want to look strong on National Security so they take a hard stand here, but where were they when the Patriot act came up, they were there to get in the way, only to say no, not only to the PA but to anything and everything that this WH puts into congress. Everything in the news turns into a scandal, everything in congress turns patrician, my friends when can we all come together just come together?

We're not outsourcing our national security. Just letting another country control our ports. Anything going in and out of the ports still have to go through our customs.
