You know, I see all of these replies and I just cant keep quiet. I am very much a Republican and I do support most of what our current administration is doing. While I teeter a bit on some of our President's actions, I am still proud to call myself a Republican. The reason is not because I like one guy better than another (or a series of people) It is simply that my beliefs are more inline with the Republican Party than with the Democrats. However, I am not one of those people who will only vote for a Republican; If I found someone that I thought could do a better job then I would gladly cast him/her my support.
At the end of the day, whichever person who we think can do the best job is the person that we should vote for regardless of affiliation.
And there's my two cents.

I am a conservative NOT a republican. The republicans seem to be just as bad as the democrats at spending tax payer dollars on crap programs especially here in Wisconsin. That being said I am usually forced to vote republican because they are closer to my own beliefs than the democrats.

Looking forward to marylands governors race

I am registered Democrat but mostly vote Republican. I am looking forward to the November governors race. I first voted for the Democratic canidate when he ran for mayor of Baltimore and have definitely changed my mind that he is the wrong person to govern Maryland. In the last governors election I voted for the Republican canidate, because he was the better of the two canidates. He has had a hard time with the Democratic Legislature but he was far better qualified than his opponent. In this coming election I am voting for the Republican canidate. So I hope that he wins a second term.Other wise it will be back to more government which does nothing. Those are my thought. GO REPUBLICANS!!!

I'm a fiscal conservative but I haven't seen one fiscal conservative that I like because to me fiscal conservatism means a normal amount of taxation and low spending on frivolous things so the money the money can be spent on education, roads and other forms of infrastructure, but to the republicans that just means don't tax people and stop all forms of government assistance.

The dems strategy is really weird lately. they seem to think that by bashing President Bush that they will gain votes. That is so wrong, aside from the liberal media (Jon Stewart types) it is no acceptable. Also they are trying to go so far left, and the Republicans have done a better job keeping moderate. When are the dems gonna realize that 61% of the country is conservative, I think we proved that we the same-sex marriage votes in 04.
I we had 1960's style dems, I would be more inclined to vote for them, bt the way they are now, they won't do well. I think that the Republicans will keep the Senate, but lose the House.

I think it's very important to remember that being Democrat or Republican in theory is not the same as endorsing the various sleazy manipulations modern politicians are doing on both sides. For example, I would consider myself socially conservative in theory, but think most members of the Republican party nowadays are a disgrace.

Just a small note-- If you are republican, and your father was/is republican, chances are youre standing for two very different things.

"The conservatives of today will be seen as the Liberals of tomorrow" -- Goldwater

Dont honk your horn too loud. Btw im registered green but im moderate. my registration in the green party is because -- A: They need it; B: No one else deserves it; and C: Registering Indi is a wasted Registration. I guess most people arent aware you need to have a certain number of registrated voters in your party for you to get $$$ to fund your campaign and get on tickets easier thanks to our messed up electorial system.

I hate republicans. I cant stand anyone who calls themself a republican because you immediately side with GeeDubya. Conservatives and Republicans are two very different things. Where one is based on holding onto rights and spending less money the other is based on spending a TON of money and taking away every right there is. If you fall into the last category... dont honk your horn too loudly.

Soon there will be another presidential election. Chances are very high that the republican ticket will be stocked with old-fashioned republicans, those like Goldwater, rather than the antichrist-superstars weve seen so far. So even if we lose you lose. Youll never see another dominant seat in this country for another decade or two at least. That makes me very happy. A lot can happen in 20 years. This time killing the president wont be enough to make it go away. This time the blade goes all the way through and I hope you feel every inch of it.

What does being a conservative mean? Please give some examples of conservative positions on issues. Pick any you want but here are a few suggestions:

What does being a successful society mean
Globalization/Free Trade
The exercise of power
Government’s role in directing everyday life decisions
Interpretation of the Constitution, particularly regarding checks and balances
Government’s role in allowing for “the pursuit of happiness”
The role of religion in governing
Emigration

I ask this honestly because I'm truly curious. I always thought I understood what being conservative meant. But given the direction we've been heading under conservative leadership I cannot say that I know.

Government size: making the government smaller, i.e., less government intervention in our lives, less taxes.
War on terrorism: The war on Iraq is an integral part of the war on terror, we need to win in Iraq or there can be no peace in the Middle East, Europe, or America.
Religion: The government should force anyone into any religion, however if a government instituation wishes to excercise its religious right (Bibles in courts, the Ten Commandments in courts, saying under God, prayer in schools) If people wish to abstain from praying or saying under God, that is fine.
Immigration: America should have closed borders secured by a fence, furthurmore, people who entered the country illegally should be treated as criminals and deported. English should be our language. The "citizenship" ammendment should be rescinded.
We have the right to pursue happiness, however you wish to within the law. The government should act minimally in this.
We should have all the resources we need to catch terrorists, whether it be water boarding or NSA wiretaps. Protecting America from terrorism is more important than giving terrorists rights.
That's all I have time for right now... if anyone would like to add to this... feell free (I mean conservatives)

I did mean shouldn't good call.

Bush isn't very Conservative in some areas, socially I think he is conservative leaning, immigration, I think he is liberal. As for the war, he is very conservative.

granted I am for the most part Republican. but, I vote for the person that i think is right for the job.

one of the things that i have heard time and time again is "if we get a democrat prez he will clean up the things that bush screwed up" and other things like that. here's the reality of politics-- politics can be likened to a single person pushing on a fully loaded 18 wheeler. He is going to move it but only a little bit before he can't push any more. now is that amount measureable? yes. is that amount large? no. does that amount count for anything? hardly. there are things that bush has put into effect that we won't see the results of for 4 to 8 years or more. likewise there are things that clinton put into effect that we didn't see the result of until bush's administration. and likewise w/ daddy bush. and reagan and carter and so forth and so on. one thing that clinton did that we saw the effect of during Bush's admin was the release of a known terrorist from isreal. that terrorist was one of the pilots on 9/11/01. you won't find that on MSNBC or CNN or ABC or any others. can't have a past prez look bad.

Since I'm not in America I'm neither, but here in NZ I voted Labour so I figure that probably puts me in the category of Democrat (tax and spend?)

Though politics is a bit interesting at the moment here, Labour are in power but are a minority government, their support parties lean more to the right than left so the ending result is a somewhat right sided government lead by the left

We didn't go into Iraq (I think we've got troops in Afghanistan though), we told 80s America to sod off and to take their Nuclear weapons with them.

Anyway the reason I side more to the left than the right is because they still look out for the worker (min wage increases, paid parental leave, 4 weeks annual leave, gave unions some power back, that sort of thing) and tend to put any extra funds into restoring our public health system, improving our roads etc before cutting the personal tax rate. Plus it was them who decided to give our Telecommunications company a big kick up the rear by forcing them to unbundle the local loop

I also not being a citizen of the USA consider myself as a person who will support the political party that is closet to the center.

In a situation where there are only two parties that stand a chance of being elected...My vote has to go to the party on the right, because I have yet to see a party of the left, that does not run the country into major dept.

I also actively support that government (voluntarily) on a weekly basis year round.

In USA language...that would make me a republican.
