SOCIAL SECURITY...PLEASE READ

WHY WAIT UNTIL 2008? THERE IS AN ELECTION IN 2006. I HERE WITH FIRMLY STATE THAT I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY POLITICIAN, REGARDLESS OF THE OTHER ISSUES, IF HE DOES NOT SPONSOR AND SUPPORT THIS LEGISLATION. THAT INCLUDES EVERYONE STANDING FOR ELECTION IN 2006.

LET US SHOW OUR LEADERS IN WASHINGTON "PEOPLE POWER"AND THE POWER OF THE INTERNET. LET M KNOW IF YOU ARE WITH ME ON THIS BY REPLYING AND FORWARDING TO EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!

KEEP IT GOING!!!!

2008 Election Issue!!

GET A BILL STARTED TO PLACE ALL POLITICIANS ON SOC. SEC.

This must be an issue in "2008" Please! Keep it going.

----------------------------------

SOCIAL SECURITY:

(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.

Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their liv s.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH....

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!

>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into,-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)-we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to:

Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us

then sit back.....

and see how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

Make sure of your facts. While it is true that Congress does not contribute to Social Security, calling their retirement benefits outlandish is obfuscation. They contribute to a program that is the same as all other federal workers and is essentially a 401K that a lot of us have at work. Your amount depends on how much you contribute and how well your choices perform.

The way they really make their money is through campaign laws that allow them to bank contributions, rules that allow them to collect speaking fees, rules that allow them to lobby once they leave office, etc.

And don’t leave out the President. He makes $400K and then will get a couple hundred thousand per year after he leaves office (Clinton gets $150K/yr now.) Add in another big chunk for official business and even a poor guy could live pretty well.

Does SS need attention? Sure. But making it the only issue is silly. How about health care costs? Congress and the President have done nothing to ease that strain on us. Or how about deficit spending and the burden of debt service?
Or (something close to my wallet) college eductaion costs? And so on...

I think it needs more attention then any other domestic issue, it is funny how liberals minimize the issue. They want to "obstuct" any solution that conservatives come up with they just want another barganing chip when the elections come around.

Thanks to yustr for making my point for me. Social security needs overhauled big time. The failing pensions of GM should be proof of that. The president has tried to do something about it, but since social security is the legacy of FDR, no democrat will ever do anything to change it. One day it will be too late. I hope I have enough invested to take care of myself. In fact, if I had my own way, I'd invest my ss withholdings differently. I bet a could make more.

Social Security and Medicare are both going to have to have major overhauls. If not, they will explode and consume the vast majority of the national budget. How about a tax rate of around 70% to pay for just these two? That's what has been estimated to be needed to pay for them in about 25 to 30 years. And Congress is scared to death to do anything about it. One of the main reasons is senior citizens vote at a higher rate than any other group in the USA, and there's enough of them to swing a tight election if they perceive any of their benefits are being changed in a way they don't like.

All I know is that I won't have any SS funds to draw from later because so many people in my age group are lazy slobs who mooch off of their working friends and their parents!
