City and Parish/County Taxes - they keep sales tax, and property tax (a cut).
This has always bothered me because I, as a home owner, pay property tax. However Miss Johnson with the six kids, whether she is on welfare, living in the projects, or renting, does not. Therefore I, who do not have children, am paying into the school tax and she, with 6 children, is not. Thus the reason to rid of property tax and converge it into the sales tax. This way everyone pays.
I do not have a problem paying property tax. I just have a problem paying the school tax portion that makes up 80% of my property tax.

But more than 50% of the people in the district voted for that, usually in the form of a levy. I personally voted no against our school tax, but gleefully pay it each year. And Miss Johnson's landlord pays the porperty tax for her. She pays it in higher rent.

Now back to the renting, Yes there is higher rent but in our part of the world we have this thing called section 8, where Miss Johnson gets her rent paid by the local government, because she is too lazy to get off her but and get a job. So in essence she still doesn't pay for school taxes.

Here's another thing that burns my bubble.
A few years ago our city decided they wanted a new arena/convention center. They said it was going to be self supporting and taxes would not needed to be increase to fund it (yeah right). It was placed on the ballot and I voted against it because, to me, it just meant eventually I will pay higher taxes to fund it. All the ads on TV and the radio, to promote it, were geared toward young adults (18-25). Saying without it, we will not see big concerts and big acts. Of course all the younger crowd wanted it but most of them do not pay property tax, so they do not understand the repercussions of if it cannot support itself.
Well here it is 4 years from now and yes, the Qwest Center cannot support itself and us property owners are paying for it.
It's really bad how the government can brainwash the public on seeing what they want the people to see and not the whole picture.
This would be another reason why there should be just a sales tax and nothing else.

Maybe so, but you do benefit from this. Better educated youth = a more competent future workforce.

Welfare is an issue all its own. A big, bloated, mess of an issue.

Welfare was a good idea, gone astray. It should only be a temp thing.

I will probaby get beatup pretty hard for this but here it goes.
Remember this is just my opinion. Don't think of me as a bad person.

My views on schools are.
All schools should be privatized. The money you save by not paying school tax can be used to pay for private schools.
