"Don't expect total accuracy"
VERY interesting read for the people who swear by the bible.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...811332,00.html Your thoughts on this? I personally think it's about time somebody admitted it. |

It’s clear to anyone who reads and comprehends that the Bible is not historically or scientifically inerrant but that hasn’t stopped a whole generation from believing otherwise. Add to this the centuries of (sometimes violent) antagonism between Catholics and Protestants and I’m guessing that this won’t change many minds in the Bible Belt.

But hey, that's just me. And this new evidence won't change a Goddamn thing, people believe in Gods because they want to, or have been brainwashed from birth. Yes, I said brainwashed. Because certain "religions" (aka: cults) like to add new commandments such as: "Thou shalt make monetary tribute to the church elders, for they desire a new Mercedes." "Thou shalt not question where thy money goes, those who do shall receive the holy gift of cement footwear" "Thou shalt have thy independant thought beaten out of thee with a sock full of quarters" To name just a few. |

I personally could careless what the Catholics believe. But this article does fit perfectly in this part of the forum since Catholocism is nothing but a big political group. Don't get me wrong I respect some of them but I think a lot of what they have done in the past is completely wrong.

The Catholics were political before there was a such thing as Protestants. If you believe in the Bible nothing the Protestants do means anything either unless it agrees with the word of God. They both have there problems but the Catholic church has allowed pagan religion into there church from the beginning. They are very close to being a cult in my eyes.

It doesn't really mean much to people who follow Catholicism(sp?) as a 'guiding path' so to say, but I know quite a few devoted Catholics, who will swear by the bible no matter what you say, and when I showed them this one, one of them got pretty pissed, and the rest seemed to think, well, I'll still blindly follow no matter what.

Catholicism is a lot like a gang. The gang has something to offer that appeals to it's members (Supposed Salvation). If you wanna be part of the gang then you have to do what THEY say, think how THEY want you to think, and live how THEY want you to live. Whether or not it makes sense doesn't matter to them, if you break the rules you're out of the gang.

Some cultures have used religion as a way of controlling the masses. Inquisistion? Interdict? Tithing?
Calvin: What's that? I'm not eating it. Mom: It's chicken Calvin: Well, if God turns out to be a giant chicken, we're al going to be sorry.

Seems to me that organized religion is run by people living in glass houses throwing stones at everyone they see. Religion is absolutely an attempt to control people's behavior. It's not enough that you go to prison for stealing and killing. Now there's a penalty after death too. It seems even in death we are not safe, which is a very, very depressing thought. So much for a way out from your problems. I think anyone who does their time on this mudball deserves to be left the hell alone once they die. I'm just gonna assume they're all full of s**t unless god himself tells me otherwise.
This is definitely a case of: "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?". We've got religions all over the damn place worshipping dozens of different gods and playing by different rules. Which is the real one? Seems god has no comment. Judging by the bible, god didn't used to be this indifferent. He doesn't seem to care anymore what anyone does, and if he doesn't care then why should I? Multiple religions claiming to be the one true path away from damnation and no one here to sort it out. Roll the dice, take your chances. The bottom line is people believe what they want to, and in a situation like that, logic goes out the window. Proof is not a requirement. I have less chance of pulling someone away from a religion they choose to follow than they have of converting me. It's a waste of time, energy, and oxygen. |
