When did you see it coming?
Yes Bry, I am still a Barry Goldwater Republican, registered as a Democrat.
And Barry would still be proud of me. I 2005, I said, in "off line" that I was "going over", and a lot of people would to, if only in voting. Bry said that he thought "we", (the Republicans) were in trouble, if I was jumping ship. Well, let's see how I do, much closer to the election in question. Here in AZ, we had Rick Rimsy (sp?), but he is just the tip of the iceberg. The Republicans still can't differentiate themselves from the Nazi Party of old. So, in 2008, the Democrats consolodate their power, by default. However, the Dems may lose the White House; I'm not ready to call it, because a McCain temper tantrum could tilt the machine, but it is looking that way. I'm voting for McCain; Barrack keeps talking about the "new deal", but I can't figure out what it is. Don't pat yourselves on the back, Republicans; my vote may be more about "absolute power corrupts absolutely" than specific issues. Power does corrupt...just look what happened to the Republicans. I now yield the floor to the gentleman from Ohio. |

Re: When did you see it coming?
Sorry, I missed the reference to 1977... maybe I didn't read enough nursery school books.
McCain will win. . . God help us all if not - for the simple reason that the Military would suffer tremendously because of the budget axe... which in turn means that our technology will suffer a great setback as well. Just like it did under Carter and Clinton -except if another presidential-nominee "invents" the next Internet, of course! I won't even get into all of the retiree's that will suffer as well when the Stock Market plummets. as the Bears will certainly return.

Re: When did you see it coming?
The military is already suffering tremendously. All the resources are going into to Iraq. Top military leaders have been saying for a couple of years now that the military is nearly broken. It cannot sustain itself. And I'm not talking about just the money.
McCain will not win. McCain must not win.

Re: When did you see it coming?
I hope to God McCain wins. Sure, they are onyl going to raise taxes on the rich, but mark my words, if BHO wins, we ALL will be paying higher taxes.

Re: When did you see it coming?
if McCain keeps on making idiotic blunderous statements then he should loose...w00t?, is he senile or just can't read the cards correctly?
either way its a bad sign...if he's senile then obviously he's not fit...if he can't read the cards, then he's obviously just a puppet...bleh.... |

Re: When did you see it coming?
Much of the discussion in this thread right now seems to be about whose ox is getting gored, not what the elections mean to the country as a whole.
drew, I'm assuming what mommabear means is that maintenance and replacement for a lot of equipment isn't keeping up with the rate at which it is being attrited. Equipment is being pulled from National Guard units to cover the short-fall, and the military has seen an overall decline in readiness levels. Can you say "stop-loss"? The Democratic controlled Congress just voted the military a raise and some decent benefits. bry, no one like taxes, but we have to pay the bills. McCain wants to maintain and extend Bush's irresponsible tax policies (never mind that he voted against them and was a vocal opponent: it was an old day yesterday, it's a new day today). That would increase the deficit by about $300 billion. Obama's plan only ramps up the deficit by around $100B. So, as a quick and dirty estimate, we could balance the budget by cutting something like, $400-$500B in spending. We could ask those American's who have most of the money to pay more of the bills. This wouldn't be a cure -all, but it would be a good start. On a practical note, there's that old saying about blood and turnips. Speaking of unfair taxes, have you looked at how much most Americans pay just in payroll taxes? As I see it, we have a choice between cutting spending, paying more taxes, just ignoring the budget short fall, or some mixture. Right now, it seems we have only one Presidential candidate that thinks we can "stay the course and it will all work out." His name is John.

Re: When did you see it coming?
Again I didn't see it... when we had to order parts we got them. some were rare parts so there was a back order, but thats because it was old crap.
Perhaps all this started occuring after '06. (after being "stretched to the limit" from '02-06).

Re: When did you see it coming?
Yeah, we always got the part to, it just took longer, sometimes it having to be remade. Or we hop down to the electronics store and make it ourselves.
