California: Former middle class and retirees increasingly living in their vehicles in gated government designated "safe lots".

Spending 75% of her income on a place to live is not a bright idea , but she's not the only lady in this situation!!!!!

Honestly, she had no retirement savings or anything? At 67? What, did she just plan on working until the day she dies?

And what's with all the animals? 4 cats and a person, living in a car... You can't blame a smell like that on the economy.

we do not know the whole situation of the woman, remember, one major illness can wipe out most retirement savings these days.

Sorry, but I have to repeat an old motto of mine form my days in a Customer Service position: Bad judgment on your part doesn't constitute an emergency for me. I'm sorry for her situation, but there are alternatives. Her family, her church, her friends, missionary groups. There's always help out there if you are willing to accept it.

Fox, you are despicably smug in commenting on this woman's savings and retirement assets. How dare you presume to know the pressures she has been under, or the demands on her resources. How nice for you that you didn't have your retirement portfolio invested in Enron stock.

Enron stock? Where in that article does it say that she lost everything in the Enron scandal? It looked to me like she lived well above her means and then didn't have the foresight to see that it couldn't last forever. Seriously? You can defend someone who lived in a million-dollar waterfront home with no savings whatsoever?

I'm not rich now, and I probably won't be in 50 years, but I sure as hell won't be living in a car when the slightest effort in savings would have saved me that indignity. This woman is putting herself on display, for what reason? Sell the dogs, sell the car, live somewhere cheaper. Problem solved.

If I'd realized that this was posted in the political forum, I probably would have thought twice about replying to it. But now that the peanut gallery has arrived, flame on.
