One Country’s Table Scraps, Another Country’s Meal

Quote:
Food shortages are causing sporadic riots in poor countries through the world.
Americans waste an astounding amount of food — an estimated 27 percent of the food available for consumption, according to a government study — and it happens at the supermarket, in restaurants and cafeterias and in your very own kitchen.
In England, a recent study revealed that Britons toss away a third of the food they purchase, including more than four million whole apples, 1.2 million sausages and 2.8 million tomatoes. In Sweden, families with small children threw out about a quarter of the food they bought, a recent study there found.

Re: One Country’s Table Scraps, Another Country’s Meal

Weird Al would be my hero, if I had a hero. Why didn't he run for president?

I was always brought up to finish what was on my plate. It was a throw back to the war (my grandparents era) when food was rashoned. I can't believe we now throw away so much food. And that is out of what is produced for sale. Last time I heard Europe paid to have a surplus of production just so that farmers wouldn't go out of business. Like that would happen in any other industry!
