Pre-Censorship Online
This story from today's Washington Post is about the decision that Network Solutions has made to block a web site owned by Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch Freedom Party, who is well know for his anti-Islamic views. Even though the site has no content at present.

Re: Pre-Censorship Online
It was going to put up the Fitna movie... I really want to see it, but it keeps getting blocked or removed before I can get a chance...

Re: Pre-Censorship Online
Is this pre-censorship, or is this just companies running scared of Muslim recriminations? I wonder if Allah has won over free speech: a task that Yahweh couldn't do.

Re: Pre-Censorship Online
I have to say that, whatever the motivation for Network Solutions actions, blocking content because it "might" violate acceptable use policy, ruffle some feathers, or incite violence, is not just an abuse of free speech, but totally gutless.

Re: Pre-Censorship Online
Well in most AUP's they also have a clause that say's "we can deny whatever we want" but its usually in a much more official script.

Re: Pre-Censorship Online
Network Solutions concerns about the Fitna movie and other "potential' content on the sight are incredibly hypocritical in view of the fact that they have been knowingly (and illegally) hosting sites for various terrorist organizations. http://blog.washingtonpost.com/secur...l?nav=rss_blog
I found the following statement especially interesting: A spokeswoman said the company was investigating the claims. In a written statement, Network Solutions said that it does not "proactively police the content of our customers' sites," but that "if a complaint is received, however, we do conduct a review to determine whether the site's content violates our company's acceptable use policy." I guess terrorists must just generate more revenue than Wilders.
