One minute its a poll, the next minute its gone. Is this my limited knowledge of HTML, or is someone deleting documents?

No, I think it was probably more like a hidden battleground of a mod war, which all seemed to end in a very bizarrely titled post.
Again, probably more close to western democracy than anyone imagined.
