The Myth of the Surge
The "surge" is not working. Or why giving arms and money to people who were trying to kill you last month isn't necessarily a great idea. The United States is paying off Iraqi militants with weapons and cash. It’s a recipe for disaster.
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics...h_of_the_surge And also : http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/...conflagration/ Did we give weapons and money before to talibans to fight the russians?

Re: The Myth of the Surge
What you failed to comprehend is the "Iraqi" people and gvt had never at any time wanted to invade or attack the U.S. and they never did.

Re: The Myth of the Surge
Yeah the 4000 dead Americans (so far) don't count because they died their needless deaths somewhere else. How sad.

Re: The Myth of the Surge
I'm not so sure that the average Iraqi feels less terror now. Just a different terror.
But you didn't mean them did you? I'm glad that the average American feels safer now. And will do. Until the next attack. Quite often people that have been bullied become bullies; kids that were abused become abusers. So is the bloodbath in Iraq more or less likely to create harmonious thoughts towards America? IMO the soldiers would have been just as useful sacrifices were they locked up in a big wooden cage, and burnt midst chants of 'God spare us from the nasty people of the world'. |

The "war" was over in 15 days . . after that, our brave soldiers were used as policemen, a duty which they were not trained to do. Suni and Shea have been killing each other for longer than this country has existed . . and yet we raise our pious hand in the air and declare that we are going to "free" them and "bring democracy to the middle east". What a bunch of clowns we have making decisions

Re: The Myth of the Surge
Amen. People sometimes fail to see what should be obvious cause/effect relationships. In his 3rd Lost Quatrain, Nostradamus prophesied that a giant asteroid should have hit earth last year. I'm proud to say that I'm the reason it hasn't. yet. Everyday at noon, I stand in my back yard wearing my PsychoKinetic Booster Helmet, willing that the asteroid be diverted. Obviously, it's working.
That isn't any more absurd than saying that U.S. occupation of a country which never engaged in state supported terrorism against the U.S. is the reason we haven't been attacked lately. And we liberals don't trivialize the deaths of U.S. service personnel. Who has less regard for their lives; those of us who want them home, or those who insist that just a few thousand more deaths will turn the tide? Before you tell me that they died for God and Country, let me remind you that those jihadists that drive a car full of explosives into a crowded market and blow up a few dozen men, women, and children will say exactly the same thing.

Actually as a good friend told me when he got wounded was that he didn't get wounded preventing terror, as what was stated on his purple heart and silver star citation, he got wounded because an AK-47 round tore thru his leg. How sad that either side is using the deaths of the troops in any trivial way... left and right.

Perhaps the US needs to equip their soldiers with PsychoKinetic Booster Helmets. Hopefully you can disclose your supplier. |
