Ships did not cause Internet cable damage

CAIRO - Damage to undersea Internet cables in the Mediterranean that hit business across the Middle East and South Asia was not caused by ships, Egypt’s communications ministry said on Sunday, ruling out earlier reports.

The transport ministry added that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the location of the cables showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged.

I was reading about this, and several poeple were blaming terrioists, although I doubt that fact. I would accuse anti-techology freaks for this.

Waiting for Al-Jezeera to play a tape from Al-Qaida making a claim for the attack.

It was probably massive crabs from historical Japan. It really shouldn't be that much of a problem, I know where we can hit them for massive damage.

Re: Ships did not cause Internet cable damage

I believe the real explanation is pretty prosaic. Here is a link to a National Public Radio interview with an analyst specializing in global Internet infrastructure research. The link for this 4:50 minute interview is directly under the headline. I think everyone will be surprised at the average rate of breakage.
