Homegrown Boogeymen
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill...bill=h110-1955
Useless legislation that has the potential to destroy lives in the same way McCarthyism did and will most likely produce none of the results it purports to. And it passed 404-6 in the House. And was sponsored by a member of the "Fascism Fighting Democratic Task Force". And it makes me sad and tired. Rule of Law, habeas corpus, Republicanism, written constitution, etc, etc... __________________ |

This is why it is not polite to post nothing but teasers.

Re: Homegrown Boogeymen
HERE'S a link that works. There are plenty of others: google H.R. 1955
And yes, it does sound frightening at first glance. I heard the Deputy Chief of LAPD on the radio say that this law allows him to arrest a group of students who meet regularly to discuss Islam (or any other subject for that matter) even if no laws have been broken and there's no indication that any will be. And, he doesn't need a court order to do so! Just as long as they fit a "pattern" that could lead to violence. It's logical that one of the steps on the road to planting car bombs is learning about Islam - so anyone who seeks that knowledge is gone. But take it farther, the logical conclusion is that the first step to becoming a radical Muslim is being born to a Muslim parent, therefore he can arrest any child of any Islamic parent can't he? You better be worried when a law has to add a provision: Quote:
