Dennis Quaid, wife sue drug maker

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

DUH, the hospital screws up, and who do they sue ?
The drugmaker....

"The Quaids didn't sue Cedars-Sinai, which acknowledged after the news broke that a "preventable error" had resulted in three patients receiving vials containing 10,000 units per milliliter of heparin instead of vials with a concentration of 10 units per milliliter."

Heparin's used all the time in hospitals, probably millions of times per year as a life saving drug. So a couple isolated goof ups by the hospital employees mean there's a "major" problem with the bottles/labels ? please......

Yea, sue the "evil greedy" corporation that makes the life saving drug, and let the idiots off the hook that misued the drug.

Re: Dennis Quaid, wife sue drug maker

you should have heard their lawyer talking about it. Quote: "The drug companies sell their product for money...," The way she said it would make you think she was talking about Ebola.

To think of the insanity of the situation. A company want to turn a profit.

Re: Dennis Quaid, wife sue drug maker

You certainly have to wonder what Quaid was thinking about. He should have sued the hospital and Baxter. Maybe (as in: absolutely certainly beyond any doubt) Baxter just has more money.

It does make you wonder why they sued the drug company instead of the hospital. maybe they did not sue the hospital because their babies may need more care. Once you sue a hospital, its tough to get care there except under extreme emergency conditions.

But then its the drug manufacturers who have the deep pockets

You answered your own question. It's a political statement. Quaid doesn't need the money.

Re: Dennis Quaid, wife sue drug maker

He's suing for the minimum of $50,000 isn't he?

Re: Dennis Quaid, wife sue drug maker

It's sad when litigation is seen as the only way of achieving change.
I can't see why the drug company wouldn't agree to put a special "high dose" sticker on such vials. So why not ask, instead of sue?

Where would be the fun and publicity in that?

Heparin's used frequently in hospitals on a daily basis; probably millions of times per year around the world. Two isolated instances of mistakenly giving the wrong drug dosage sounds more like a major screw up by the doctor or nurse, rather than a "problem" with the drug company and/or it's label methods.

It used to be used by rat exterminators too.

Coke is drunk by millions each year, yet if you look at the 'high dose' mixer packs they contain all kinds of chemical hazard warnings. A warning doesn't suggest a product is dangerous, it merely serves to minimize human error. If coke was to also package normal coke in 'mixer boxes' I could understand how people could make a mistake.
