What i'm saying is sure there are extermes and we are hearing about it, but as far as I'm concerned its not our business. RIght now i'm for a semi isolation state not complete by some what. We need to stop sloving the worlds problems cause it only gets us in trouble (iraq)

You control disorder in society with laws and punishment. In these cases both the laws and punishment seem alien to us. But the concept of laws and punishment is one we agree on.

I think Holywood, the internet and other western broadcast values will eventually win the day. The question is what kind of win will it be? There are enough problems in the west that we wouldn't wish on anyone.
As for action, what can we do. Changing a mindset takes time. To march on Islam and demand it changes is just opening a new crusade. What a mess they were.
We may not like it, but it will be here a while. So why not try coexisting and education rather than outright judgment, sanctions and conflict.

WOW...ignorance...I cant believe that you people actually think this is true. Im a Muslim and I can tell you that it is completely unacceptable for men to beat their wives. Thats not to say that it doesn't happen. It happens all over the world; not just in Muslim countries. Contrary to popular western belief, Islam is all about equality...thats the basis the whole Qur'an is written on. The Qur'an stresses the fact that all men and women are created equal...anybody who doesn't follow that cannot truly call him/herself a Muslim.

I will agree that I am mostly ignorant of Islam (as I am about almost all religions). To me its just another system based on ritual and dogma; not logic or reason. Fine if you want it but not for this boy...

true...Saudi Arabia does not treat men and women equally at all. But that's based on their traditional culture, not Islam. If they truly followed the Islamic faith, these discriminations would not exist. The reason most Westerners do not realize the difference between radical extremists and true Muslims is the media that dominates western life.

One trend that I have observed is that Islamic nations tend to be anything but peaceful, just as Drew notes. I am interested to hear from Waseem and other Muslim members whether this is media fiction, or is indeed a trend; and whether Islam itself is the cause as a violent uncompromising religion. Likewise I would be interested to see if other cultures view our peaceful western lives as we do, or see them in another light.

i might add the crime of honors (punishing infidel women) inside Muslim Communities in these countries is still Alive: turky , jordan,pakistan,india,Afghanistan,Iraq,Yemen,Bangladesh , Indonesia,Sudan.

I don't like, or condone how they treat women. I'm just not sure how to change it, invasion is not the answer(gives the world some other reason to hate us). IMHO if we could "Get off" of forein oil, we could stop funding these governments even our freinds the Saudi's. I feel that would be one small step in the right direction for a multitude of problems our nation faces.

There's a story in the UK papers about a Mulism woman who was gangraped, by a group of men and is now facing punishment herself for "mingling". She was basically blackmailed to go with these men, who were threatening to tell her husband that she was being unfaithful. The rapists got off with VERY light punishments (some none at all) and so she went public (hence her punishment). The rapists told her husband she was a willing perticipant or something, and he laughed in their faces. He is fighting hard to get justice for her.

Which country is this from? That's right, the USA's ALLY and FRIEND. Saudi Arabia. The hypocrisy stinks.

Saudi should step up and fix their justice system (interconnected with religion)
Usa and the Western countries had publicly protested against the judgement , what else do you want the USA to do ? Bomb them ?

I wasn't blaming the USA at ALL I'm not stupid you know .
I'm saying Sudi have a LOT of human rights issues, but Iran are not as bad. Yet Saudi are the US's allies, and Iran it's enemies. It makes no sense to me.
