Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

And the kids whose parents get imprisoned for victimless crimes. And kids who get shot during drug deals gone bad. And kids working as slaves to make it.

Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

So apparently its not victomless as the parents should have thought better... you are not going to get me to think that any crime is victomless as every crime has caused a victom.

If the government takes away a kids father for smoking pot, its not the pot that caused a victim, its the father's negligence that caused a victim (smoking pot when he knows he could get arrested and not be able to be there for his son)

If someone gets shot during a drug deal gone bad, its not the drugs fault. The drugs didn't force someone to pull the trigger that ended a kids life.

In fact, the drug deal gone bad killing someone situation is stupid. Where are the cigarette deal gone bad killings? The alcohol deal gone bad killings? They don't exist, because criminals aren't running the industry.

Granted, with any drug, there exists a potential for that person to harm someone while in an altered state of mind, but really, it all comes down to self control. Punish the user for what they did under the influence (DUIs that cause deaths can be charged as murder), not because of what enabled them to do it (don't ban cars because someone stupid got drunk and got behind the wheel.)

If I make a conscious choice to do meth, and then kill someone in a murderous rage because I was on meth, the fault still lies with my decision to take meth in a situation that could conceivably result in me causing harm to someone. It doesn't lie with the inert drug.

Its the effects of the drug that make you do things like that. People turn to robbing places/people to fund their drug habit as they cannot afford all the different drugs they need to take each day to survive.

Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

Yeah, its the effects of the drugs that make you do things like that. Since the drug has no free will, we can't punish the drug.

Since not everyone who is hopped up on drugs kills people, we shouldn't ban the drugs anymore than we ban cars or hammers or rat poison or saws or other dangerous things just because they are dangerous.

Therefore the only thing left is to punish the user who 1) knowingly took a drug that could cause him to act in a manner that would lead to a crime being comitted and 2) committed a crime while on drugs. If I do cocaine and just have a jolly old good time on my property, why should I get raided by the police when I didn't do anything other than have a jolly good time in a different state of mind?

People do stupid things while drunk all the time. If we are gonna start banning things because they alter the mind or cause you to do things you wouldn't otherwise, then we need to ban alcohol. Otherwise all the drug prohibitionists are just hypocrites.

And please stop parroting the whole "drugs are expensive so everyone will sell their house and **** out their daughters to get their next fix"

Yes, people will probably still do this if drugs are legalized, but drugs will be cheaper due to regulation and legalization of the drug trade. Most of the plants that drugs come from are cheap and easy to grow (well, they would be if the DEA didn't throw people in jail for trying), and if we grow and manufacture our own drugs all those Colombian drug lords are suddenly out of business and within a few years, I bet it'd be a bit of a safer country since their aren't rich people with guns and drug interests crawling all over south america.

Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

Well I think that it all depends on what kind of society you want to live in. Do you want the occaisional crime that comes with an illegial drug scene; or do you want a lot of people either in a chemically altered state, or worse still in a constant (addicted) altered state.

I hate that drugs fuel a lot of crime. But I suspect that the incidence of addicts would be huge in a permissive society. And that would have lots of consequences.
As for pot, the argument over side effects continues.
As for smoking, the social tide is turning in the uk (and not before time).
As for alcohol, it is the test case to prove which countries and people can handle drugs. And by the levels of alcohol induced incidents, I think we in the west have proved ourselves quite untrustworthy!

Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

For us in the USA I spose there is a war on drugs. Which to me seems kind of funny as the ones that are stoned are winning this so called war... Funny...?

I do not know if it should be legalized, but I think it should be decriminalized..

Re: Should Cannabis Be Legalised????

I think the only reason cannabis is illegal is that its too easy for anyone to grow so the big corporations cannot make any profit nor can the government tax it.
