Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're a foreign diplomat, isn't it your job to go over and represent the U.S.? I mean, otherwise they're just sitting around not doing anything.

Or I could be completely misguided and even offensive, I don't know because I'm in a strange state of mind.

Hey Mr./Mrs./Ms. diplomat. Don't like your job, then find another one and stop sucking off the government if you won't do what you are paid to do.

Razz Re: US diplomats who refuse to go to Iraq could lose their jobs

Diplomats are suppose to serve the US in any foreign area, especially if people in the area are against the US or have a negative opinion of the US. They are suppose to negotiate and represent the US. It is easy to be a Diplomat in a peaceful area but real Diplomats and diplomacy have to work in turbulent areas. If they don't want to do their job then they should quit because being a Diplomat doesn't mean having a cushy position.

The action of not notifying their subordinates that they may be ordered to work in Iraq seems like an underhanded tactic by a group of people that don't want to add anymore negativity to an misconceived and mismanaged war. A war that the majority of Americans are against.

It's understandable that many of the Diplomats are upset because they found out about the order from the media and not their superiors. If senior State Dept Personnel are willing to send their subordinates to Iraq they should also be willing to spend an amount of time in Iraq also. This includes Condolezza Rice and Harry Thomas.

Some diplmats over here are simply slobs. They sit around nod there head and smile.

Those diplmoats have it easier and get better pay then our boys.

Then sit in the grenzone sometimes leaving to do meetings however always very well gaurded. And they are complaining? Why don't the poeple whoa re forced to gaurd those sobs complain as well?

Re: US diplomats who refuse to go to Iraq could lose their jobs

Most State Department employees aren't diplomats; they are pencil pushers who never expected to be in harm's way. Too bad. Sure, in normal circumstances, the Baghdad embassy would have been closed, but the situation in Iraq can't really be called "normal" now, can it?

Sorry, but I know men who either spent time in prison or left the country because they chose not to serve in Vietnam. I'm really short on sympathy for State Department personnel who want all the perks and benefits of their job without the risk.
