Dividing Iraq

Ok first off the porposal is to divide Iraq into three different countries givng kurds their own, shitties there own, and sunis there own.

Now sure this might slove the issue of IRaq for a bit however your forgetting MANY MANY THINGS in believeing that this is the way to go.

First off lets look at how it will be divided up

The north will the kurds lots of oil
The middle the shitties (sp) lots of sand no oil, a bit of water as well.
The south the sunnies lots of oil beaitful beaches.

So basically your making the kurds and sunnies rich well make the shitties poor, nope this wouldn't lead to any conflict none at all.

Next problem

Iran would most likely take over southern Iraq since they are the same sect of islam as that giving Iran even more oil, and right next to kuwait if they do decide to expand into that direction.

Next problem

No one likes the kurds, in fact our only true muslim ally the turks have roughly 7,000,000 kurds living on the border of Iraq, now whata think is going happen if we give their neighbors the kurds in Iraq their own country? Well those 7 mill kurds in turky who are the ones blowing them sevles up and generally being terrioists will want to seprate from turky and become a part of their kurd brothers country.

Turkey isn't going like this, nor is Syria, o yea and Iran isn't going like it either. Now at best Turkey would tell America that their alliance is OVER which would be bad, because basically turkey is our only muslim ally they are also a moderate islamic coutnry and we do really need ot be creating more radical muslims? I mean seriously thats dumb.

Now lets talk about worst cast, Syria, Iran and Turkey feel threated by this invasion. They also see it as way to get some Oil for themsevles. Iran, Turky, and Syria invades to take out the kurds, after we leave. They take out the kurds then fight amosgt themsevles for the fight for all that oil.

O yea that'd make the middle east stbale.

next borders, ok borders well they are sorta though you can sorta draw a line where its divided at.

Um yea I did say sorta, there would be agruements among the 3 new natiosn over borders and bictiring especially when oil land is so valauble the middle men will be trying to get as much as possible.

Next problem, when they say divide and conquer, they donj't always mean divide your forces and conquer but they mean DIVIDE YOUR ENEMY AND CONQUER. I gotta tell you destorying 3 small nations IMHO sounds a lot easier then destorying 1 nation.

Another problem, its the cheap way out.

I'm sorry but this is the CHEAP WAY OUTTA IRAQ. This is the panzy way, we are giving up and goign divide it up and give them w/e.

IMHO Iraq at the end of the day has to remain Iraq, Iraq cannot be 3 it must be 1. This is to protect the kurds, prevent another war, keep relations with turkey on a + note, keep Iran from getting more oil & power, and not causing more interal strife.

Plus I think Iraq is getting better.

We had debated this in class today and in the article we had a picture of the major plotical party of Iraq. Well they had a woman sitting in with this big wig party. Now in the middle east from what I understand women are basically 2nd class citizens.

But this woman was setting wtih all kinds of powerful and succesfull men. This alone tells me are getting some things accomplished.

I think that talks with Iran will be improving things along with talks with Jordan, Syria and maybe getting soem military support with Saudi Arabia which they have offered in a way.

The problem with Iraq is that we arbitrarily drew lines on a map to create it in the first place. You don't arbitrarily draw new lines on the map to "fix" it. Get out, let them decide for themselves how to deal with their problems.

I think that dividing Iraq is a very bad idea as well. Another likely result is fighting between each of the countries that think they have the right to the entire area. Whoever got the area with the most oil would be at the highest risk of invasion... How would it create stability? Is giving three areas of land to three groups that hate each other going to help? I doubt it if the lands border each other...

Hi Nik :

The north and the South have Oil , the Sunnis live in the middle and has no oil and share frontier with Syria and Jourdan .
The kurds live in North ,they share the frontier with Turkya and shiites live in the southern part and share the border with iran.

No oil for sunnis , saddam was sunnite.The poor became rich and the rich became poor .
