Congrats!

But you won't be a true builder until it fails and you spend half a day troubleshooting it down to a loose ide cable (or something equally simple).

Congrats, the first one I ever built (about 6 years ago) didn't last but a few seconds. My "genius" friend told me the heatsink wasn't neccessary...needless to say my AMD K7 promptly went up in a puff of smoke.

So at the very least, you're doing better than me!

i have. your doing better than my first. it was pieced together from unwanted computers from a thrift store. i took all the best parts and tried to build one good computer. this was back in the win 95 days. needless to say, i never did get it working right. so i gave up, and stuck with my second hand macs that always worked.
but i did build one a couple years later from all new parts and with win 98se that worked well, and served me 3 years, until the ex took it.

Well like I said, it was my first build and he had just finished building his old pentium computer (with a slot processor, which can run without a heatsink for a little while)...so I figured he probably knew more than me about it. It was when he said, "Maybe it's supposed to smoke because it's an AMD" that I realised he was a moron.

Fortunately I had a warranty on the processor...
