sounds like you had a profitable absence then .. people you meet that may become friends are called acquaintances, there is a proving period which can last from minutes through decades when their "friendship" is tested ..

friends are acquaintances that prove over time how much they value your company

you met some people, you realised their value, your ways parted .. all part of growing up, understanding the pitfalls of trusting too quickly & too easily, and learning the consequences thereof.

Once bitten, twice shy .. a good lesson to learn
