Question A quick question (about closing threads)

I understand that everyone has their own idea (about how things should be done/run) & that people are particularly touchy about forum adminstration (being on many-a-team of forum/site administrators), so it's no biggie... This has nothing to do with the threads/posts being mine, I just happen to notice them because of it.

The " Reset Volume Control" thread was recently closed, with an explanation: " This thread is 3 yrs old and will no longer be active". This thread has more than 1.5K views and I had found it through a Google query. This many views isn't so bad at all, right?

So, anyway, we aren't the first, nor the last of the people that will and/or have a similar/equal problem; But the thread is closed and it'll get buried, if not lost. Isn't the point of a forum, that everyone will have access to and use the information within?.. Otherwise we might just email each other (personally), or use something like Ask Yahoo!

Just a though :-F

ps.
Here's another one. Even if the "OP is no longer interested" - there's bound to be a couple of other people that will have used WinZIP ;) :)

Re: A quick question (about closing threads)

Although a thread is closed, it is still available for viewing. Old open threads are normally only closed when there is little likelihood of the original poster responding, as in the example you mention.

Re: A quick question (about closing threads)

posters need to start their own threads for their own problems

if the th thread is left open new posters seem to think that is the place to post

so they are closed as it wastes time to
move a post,
reply to it
and send the poster a link to the address it has been moved to
especially when the forum's response is so slow
