new user registration problems, search problems, WHERE DO I BEGIN?etc.

Hello, First, thanks for having this forum(s)! PLEASE HELP TELL ME WHERE TO START, AND WHAT TO DO FIRST???

I'm a brand-new member to ANY Computer forum, so please be patient. I'm a self-taught computer "user" since the mid-1970s, and must trouble-shoot by myself.
just trying to keep things running smooth and safe.

I had real trouble registering, because no images would appear in the image verification field, until it finally did (I don't know why), but same problem wont let me sign up with spybot's forums (safer networking), the image verification field is blank. Tried a third forum (geeksonthego) or something like that, and their image security code would not appear for me on either of my 2 computers. (both win xp sp3). All other types of images and graphics seem okay, but I also noticed my "recent documents" list contains pictures from my "my pictures" folder, which I know I haven't looked at in ages, it looks like someone opened each one, right after the other.

also, now that I'm signed up with you, I try searching your forums and often get this:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 75497472 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 24 bytes) in /home/tsf/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 3095.
I whittle the search down to one or two words and get results, but too vast for me to find what I can relate to.

I found your site by trying to explore why my new(about 2 weeks ago) spybot was running slower and slower on both of my 2 computers (both winxp sp3). But with these other problems, and one computer starting to run sluggishly, I don't know where to begin. On that one, the task manager will not appear, It says I'm missing VDMDBG.DLL, but I searched and that file DOES appear in six or seven locations including sys32 and dll cache, so I ran sfc/scannow but it didnt fix anything.

I'm assuming I may need to download HJT, but I just read today that it's spyware by trendmicro? is that true? is it safe or isn't it?
I really just need help prioritizing, or point me off to a start please?
Thanks, Bill (L8start)
