I've seen a lot of posts on the Internet saying that LC in GTA IV is almost an exact replica of New York (at least Manhattan). While the general locations of famous landmarks were surprisingly well created, Liberty City is still way too small to pass as an NYC re-creation. The most basic test is to take a taxi from the southern end to the northern end, having it drive legally. I'm not sure how long it would take in Manhattan (probably around an hour, considering the traffic), but it took less than 10 minutes in GTA. Counting the number of blocks, too, and we get an Algonquin that is maybe one sixth the size of the real Manhattan. Nice try, Rockstar. At least True Crime did something right in this respect.

Well, 7 months after buying GTA IV, I finally took it out of the closet and installed it. First thing I did, after the hour and a half it took to setup, update, and tweak graphics (to the very lowest level, of course, except traffic density, which I kept at 100 since I love driving through traffic in games), and finish the first mission so I can save, I went online for some multiplayer.

Wow, what an amazing experience! Besides the lack of lag, deathmatch gameplay was just plain fun. Way better than a typical FPS. Surprisingly, I won my very first deathmatch round (granted, there were only around 5 people), but I must've went through a sophmore slump as I finished dead last in a second round with only 1 kill.

Anyway, if anyone wants to play a round or two with me, my Windows Live username is derekli04.

As sure as I am writing this blog there are those who were not in way shape or form affected by the economy if that is the case trust me that is great for you as I was not as lucky this go around.

My wife quit her job to be a stay home Mom back in August '08, sadly and unsuspectingly in the beginning of April '09 my employer informed that the company was downsizing and I would be one of the five who were going to be laid off

Since then (April 09) my wife and myself have both been actively searching for employment and have not had any luck yet her with over 7 and a half years of experience in the medical field and myself with a couple of years in my field of choice NST, sure we have had our share of interviews and what not but have not yet landed.

Please say a prayer for me and my family  that something soon will break as my unemployment is not even enough to cover the rent.

I have done a whole bunch of side work for my landlord including getting him up to fire-code in the mountains which basically consisted of pushing a lawn mower up huge hills and using a weed-whacker wherever it was impossible for the lawn mower to get in.

Well that is all for now maybe some more a little later gotta go the store and get some food cuz everyone here is hungry right now.

Well just like the title says I have three computers one laptop and two desktops both of my desktops ended up being Dells somehow.

One model is a optiplex GX 260 and the other is a Dimension XPS t600rhttp://www.pcworld.com/article/25029...xps_t600r.html

Acer laptop

Funny thing is out of the three my favorite PC is the Old Dell well grandfather should I say since my optiplex is no teenager lol:laugh:

I have dual booted that poor thing so many times like with Windows Advanced Server 2000 and XP Pro another time with Win 2000 Pro and XP Pro once with some flavor of Linux I do not recall and never really grasped either and of course Win XP.

Just was wondering if anybody else has a little weird similar situation as mine liking the old box out of all machines, I guess my reason for favoring it is that it has literally been broke down many times before once was broke down literally as my wife body slammed it on the concrete:upset: no kidding! and has stuff just kinda barely hanging on and now currently is tucked under a huge desk I have out of harm's way not too mention how many BSOD we have seen together while dual booting and maybe once just because it was having a bad day.

Although I am grateful for what I do have already and without a doubt am able to carry out any desired task of mine I hope that my budget will soon allow me to buy one of these cool computers with two, three, four brains that lot of people already own.

Those things are amazing in respect of performance!

Well comments are welcome and desired as this is my first blog yet.

Probably the best kept secret of the pharmacy

I discovered recently something truly revolutionary. Very simple. Probably very old. But very very useful. And unadvertised.

Remember all those times, as a kid, where your mum had to hold you down/ bribe you/ both to rip off your old plaster. She would tell complete lies like it wont hurt if you do it quickly.
Well, faced with starting to do the same with my daughter, I thought I'd ask the pharmacist if they had anything to help. I mean, perhaps nail varnish remover might help?
Well it turns out that hidden away in most pharmacy counters is a great product called Zoff. It is probably best compared to the kind of wipes you get at KFC for cleaning up afterwards. It is a set of wipes containing an alcohol solvent that if you wipe on a plaster, it dissolves the adhesive. So with a bit of patience, you can get plasters off with no pain and no horrible after residue.

Now why this has not been advertised to the masses is beyond me. But I will spread the word to ease the pain of many children everywhere.

As the local PC guru you're probably very used to friends and family asking for help with their computer problems, yet having no idea how to clearly describe what's going on. It's frustrating, but Microsoft feels your pain, and Windows 7 will include an excellent new solution in the Problem Steps Recorder.

When any app starts misbehaving under Windows 7 then all your friends need do is click Start, type PSR and press [Enter], then click Start Record. If they then work through whatever they're doing then the Problem Steps Recorder will record every click and keypress, take screen grabs, and package everything up into a single zipped MHTML file when they're finished, ready for emailing to you. It's quick, easy and effective, and will save you hours of troubleshooting time.

In Teeside it will join 4 US navy warships that were too toxic for other countries to want to dismantle.

All this reminded me of a trip I did as a kid to Sellafield. They were intending to set up a centre to take all the high grade nuclear waste that other countries didn't want.
Well, I don't know if this came to anything. (I do know that the rest of our nuclear industry research is so run down that any new generation of UK reactor will be French designed and built).

It seems that Britain has found quite a niche in solving the disposal problems that yesterday's industry has created. And perhaps this is an enormous growth industry. Because industrial developments always produce unwanted consequences whether it be asbestos that is impossible to burn and deadly to breath; or plastics that are versatile materials, but will remain for ever; or fertilisers that increase hormone levels in our rivers.

I play Video Games, nearly 10 years now.
I have played mostly all genres of games, I say mostly cause there is one genre that I never played, I don't know why, not that I didn't like it, but I don't know, maybe because I didn't know about the games sites like Gamespot, Gamerhell, IGN and other, and obviously that genre is RPG
the first RPG that I played was about 3 years ago, and it was a demo, I don't remember it's name, but I didn't like it, so I just left the RPG genre and never gave it any interest.
One day, my friend called me and he said that he bought a new game that had a very high score on gamespot, so he told me to come over and have a look at it. When I first saw the game, I was amazed by it's graphics and its story, the gameplay and the way you fight in it, the magic you use, or you create. The game name was the Witcher.
After a while a bought the game, and I think it was my first RPG game and was the key that introduced me to that amazing genre that I ignored in the past 10 years.
Since the Witcher, I heard that a succeful game is coming out as a third sequel of a great franchise. Lots of sites was talking about it, posting previews and news about it.
Yes, it was Fallout 3.
One time I was posting a thread here, when I saw some posts from two of the games team, talking about how Fallout 3 is amazing.

one of the post : "Fallout 3 is like eating delicious Mashed potatoes with carmelized onions and butter with just the right amount of seasoning in SLOW MOTION" (from McNinjaguy)

the second post "Just got it 2 days ago.
I'm in love.
Haven't loved a game this much since Morrowind. Awesome is the only word I can use to describe it." (from Tiber Septim)

and now what can I say? that I'm not sleeping? that I'm not having launch? that I'm not studying from my Final Exam? YES! I'm guilty
I'm one of many others who has became a victim of Addiction, Addiction to Fallout 3!
The First WOW!! I said was when I killed the Vasire or whatever his name is, using for the first time the VATS
I aimed for his head using the blade, and his head was decapitated in SLOW MOTION!!!!
Deciding to be good or Evil? "to be or not to be"? LOL!!
Blowing off the bomb? or defuse it? HAHA!!
well I defuse it!! I don't know why but I did it! I liked the idea of blowing it though ;) :D

Now I'm trying to find a cure to that addiction, but if I did, I don't think I'll ever use it.

EDIT :
I finished Fallout 3 yesterday... but really you need to play it again and again, cause every time you choose a different answer than before, there is a different consequences, what if you blown the bomb? what if you were a jerk with the people?
what if you had a very low Karma?
what if? what if?
it all goes on and on

My internets were itchy, about two days ago. I got this Antivirus 2009 thing and freaked, calmed down, and proceeded to accuse everyone in my family of infecting my computer by using Internet Explorer...
"Alright, who was using IE to get on the internet?" I yelled through the house. "Someone gave me an infection, now it's going to take forever to get rid of it. I told you guys, only use Firefox."
I settled in to see just what the damage was. At every search in Firefox, my page was being redirected to places like shopica.com, and miva (whatever that is). Lots of popups and finally, after trying to disable and fix things myself, the internet stopped working altogether. I quickly opened up techsupport.com and found this thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...-disabled.html
Which I promptly saved as text. I also read through and downloaded all of the tools listed in the thread to a usb drive from my Vista machine (which was not infected). Once I had all the tools listed, I shut down the internet, and plugged the USB drive into the infected machine. Working fast, I followed all directions to the letter - without the ability of feedback about my logs I had to assume my results were similar to the thread-starters. The next day I finished up the cleanup, ran Kapersky and deleted all used tools (i.e. combo-fix /u) in the manner specified.
Now, 48 hours later, my computer is running fine, and I'm adopting some of the recommendations listed last in the thread. It's invaluable to have the archived support threads from techsupport, and helps that admins do not allow people to try to gain help through private messaging. Most of these problems swim from machine to machine like a wave, and having the ability to read post for post what to do has helped me tremendously (more than once).
So thanks to the analyst who facilitated that thread, you helped me too!
