Craftsman Lawn Tractor Won't Start Consistently
It was starting and running fine, but a pulley broke, so I had to remove the deck for repair. I reinstalled the deck (all simple, mechanical connections), and it wouldn't start. I found that the solenoid had a loose stud, so I tigntened it up, but still no action. I then jumped across the solenoid with a pair of pliers, and it cranked, so I replaced the solenoid with a new one. It still wouldn't start. Voltage coming into the solenoid is 12+. I had my son turn on the key so I could check the voltage coming out of the solenoid, and the silly mower started right up! So I had him try it again, and nothing. He tried it a few more times - Sometimes it cranked, and sometimes nothing. In every case, the clutch and seat safety switches were depressed.
I don't see any worn/damaged wires. The starter makes no unusual sounds. On the side of the motor opposite the starter, something makes a very small "click" every time the key is turned on. I don't know if this is unusual or as expected. Any suggestions? Ignition switch, maybe? Thanx. |

try a new key switch if it still wont crank you can run you some heavy wires from the solenoid to a new switch and start it that way i,ve had some wouldnt crank with a new solenoid or new key switch had to jump the solenoid

Check your safety switches first, there should be on the blade lever. The little click your hear ? Maybe the fuel cut off switch on the carb.
